A Child's Christmas in Wales

Laura Sheldon, author of Mr Mahli's Shed and a ghost named Dylan and Sophie Finds a Fairy Door, shares her favourite Christmas poem for our seventh Firefly Christmas Book Advent treat.

When children in Wales start to get Christmassy, when the log fires are lit and the smell of smoke is in the air, I always think of a wonderful Christmas story by my favourite Welsh writer. If you've read Mr Mahli's Shed, you can probably guess who it is...

'A Child's Christmas in Wales' by Dylan Thomas is such an evocative story. It's as original as it is festive and strikes a chord with many people. From the cats lined up on the walls and the pointless presents to the aunt offering the firefighters something to ... read, it's a festive treat from start to finish. If there's a story I imagined my ghostly Dylan writing, once TB and Alys had found him a new home, then it's this one.
