Hay Fever

There’s so much happening at Hay this week.  Here’s the children’s and YA programme.

Firefly is delighted to have its first event in the official programme.  On Sunday 1 June at 10 am, Heather Dyer and Shoo Rayner will be reading, and in Shoo’s case drawing, from The Flying Bedroom and Dragon Gold.  Come and join us!

Heather says: 'I'm thrilled to be unveiling The Flying Bedroom for the very first time, at the Hay Festival.'

And Shoo told us he’s looking forward to letting Harri's dragon fly at Hay. ‘After writing 175 short books, I can't wait to introduce my first children's novel at Hay. I can't wait to tell everyone about Harri and his dragon. I just hope Ryan's Dad isn't there too. Who's he? You'd better read the book!’

Also this Thursday, 29th May, Dan Anthony will be taking part in the Hay Festival Writing Squad events (these are closed events, so tickets are not available).  The details are here.  We’re very proud that Dan is part of in this important event to develop children’s writing and reading and we’re sure everyone attending will have a brilliant time.  Here’s Dan with Steve, the hero of his book Steve’s Dreams.

Dan told us: 'The Hay Festival is an incredible international festival for book makers and book lovers and it's a real pleasure to be hosting a writers squad workshop right at the centre of the action. Hay on Wye is a unique place, it's on the border between real and imagined worlds - that's exactly where we're going to go.'

How can you resist that magical mix of the real and imagined?  Hope to see you there!
