And then there were eight... new 2014 titles revealed

From basset hounds to vampires - not to mention the Chicken of Doom - if you've read our April newsletter you'll know that our autumn line-up, just announced, includes some great new titles by new and established authors Malachy Doyle, Wendy Meddour, Sharon Tregenza and Sarah Todd Taylor. If you haven't, why not sign up now via our website?

Kicking off in September in our Dragonfly series is Pete and the Five-a-Side Vampires by award-winning author Malachy Doyle. What’s more, we’re delighted that Malachy’s stories about night-time wanderer Pete, aged 9, and his faithful basset hound, Blob, are to be illustrated for the first time by his daughter, Hannah Doyle.

Pete and his faithful companion, Blob the basset hound, love to go wandering in the pitch-dark night, then stumble over a van-load of vampires... and end up at the most frightful fancy dress party ever!

Alongside Pete will be The Shiver Stone – a thrilling seaside adventure story for 8-12 year olds by Sharon Tregenza. Weaving magic and mystery with friendship and family drama, this story is sure to appeal to fans of several genres.

Carys has a mystery to solve. Risking the dangers of the sea and cliffs, Carys and her friend Jago face their greatest fears in this action-packed adventure.

And in October we bring out two more stories in our Dragonfly series for 7-9 year olds, firstly fun and frolics with the charming Dottie Blanket by Wendy Meddour in Dottie Blanket and the Hillside, set near Wendy’s own childhood haunts around Aberystwyth. Additionally, in what must be an amazing double for any publisher, Wendy’s book is also illustrated by her daughter, this time Mina May, aged 13. Mina has already illustrated the Wendy Quill books for her mum, so is becoming quite an old hand at this game.

When Dottie Blanket’s father loses his job, she wishes she could live on a bright green hillside. And then her wish is granted.

Dottie will be joined by Tomos from Harlech, the eager but accident-prone star of Arthur and Me, the winning title of our very own 2014 Firefly Children’s Book Prize written by first-time children’s author Sarah Todd Taylor, illustrated by Peter Stevenson.

Exclusive character sketches from illustrator Peter Stevenson!

Tomos has a bad record with school trips. Even so, when he falls down a hole and lands on King Arthur this seems like his chance  he has been waiting for to please his Arthur-mad teacher. But he quickly discovers Arthur is not the hero he expects. And then he finds out about the awful truth about Merlin and the Chicken of Doom...
